Rusty’s latest adventure!!

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Rusty’s latest trip was a short weekend break to Prague, with Stephanie,Gerald and their friends. At Bristol Airport, they bumped into Roy Noble and Frank Hennessy, who were keen to ask Rusty for his autograph and have their picture taken with him!!

Rusty says that he has seen enough snow now for the moment, and he’s desperate to feel a bit of sun on his back!

Let’s just hope that Rusty is a good sailor,as his next trip is a cruise around the Canary Isles,on the fabulous “Independence of the Seas”.It’s a tough life Rusty!!!!

WOW!! WHAT A MONTH THAT WAS!

Friday, February 10th, 2012

It seems strange in the current economic climate, but JANUARY was an absolutely crazy month-we have been so busy that we’ve barely had time to catch our breath!!We’ve had some wonderful bookings this past month which demonstrate our great strength as an independent agent. We had an enquiry from a lady who wanted to visit New Mexico in the USA to take a tour of the native american cave paintings-we sorted it and she’s off in March. We’ve done a wonderful honeymoon for a couple that incorporates a  cruise on board the  Atoll Explorer, cruising around the Maldives. We’ve been inundated with requests for cruises and tours to see the Northern Lights, and we did a super Kuoni holiday to Borneo.Titan tours have been exceedingly popular too,no doubt because of their fantastic itineraries and the fact that they pick you up from your home and dive you to the Airport in comfort.Despite the tragic events of the Costa Concordia, our cruise girls have been kept busy with enquiries and bookings, whilst the great offers that Disneyland Paris had for early bookers has resulted in a glut of bookings.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us,we really do appreciate it!If you haven’t booked your holiday yet, then please give us a call soon-as you can see,we absolutely thrive on the more complex and obscure enquiries, the more complicated the better!!!         See you soon.

They’re back!!!!

We are thrilled to welcome home William and Rusty after their successful expedition to the South Pole!We understand from William that Rusty was a perfect travel companion, though he did make a bit of a spectacle of himself at the party held at the base at the Pole!We have some fantastic photos of Rusty, and William during their trip.We would urge anyone who has not yet done so,to sponsor William and his chosen charity,The Teeenage Cancer Trust at www.90degreessouth.co.uk. We will also be looking for volunteers to take Rusty on holiday with them.We have a competition in place to guess how many miles Rusty will clock up in 2012 on his travels, the trip to the South Pole is 9771!!!The prizes, for the most accurate guess, are a £50.00 Ocky White Travel voucher and a Family ticket to the Blue Lagoon,Bluestone.

FANTASTIC NEWS,WELL DONE WILLIAM McNAMARA(and Rusty!!!)

We’ve just heard the news that William has arrived safely at the South Pole!!!In fact he made it yesterday,15th January.I hope that William and Rusty enjoyed a wee celebratory dram last night in recognition of this achievement. If you haven’t yet done so,please read William’s blogs on www.90degreessouth.co.uk to get an idea of the unforgiving nature of this expedition, and what a truly remarkable performance this has been.We have been told that Rusty has been keeping his blog up to date on the journey, and we can’t wait to read about is adventures and see his photos!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

So,we have arrived at the end of another year full of trials and tribulations.Earthquakes in New Zealand, tsunami in Japan, conflict in the Middle East and the European financial crisis have all had a profound effect on our lives this year.Without question,2012 will also pose plenty of problems as the financial crisis continues to bite. However,at Ocky White Travel it’s not all doom and gloom-we’ve actually had a successful year! The reasons for that are straightforward-in Kevin,Chris,Victoria,Anna and Eleri we have a team of travel advisors totally committed to providing the best possible service and finding the best holiday for you,not a national parent company!!! I believe that there is definately a swing back to “old fashioned”principles of quality friendly, professional and personal service and that is exactly what we provide (with the added fully bonded protection of ABTA of course meaning your money is safe with us).On behalf of all the team at Ocky White Travel(not forgetting Rusty of course),I would like to wish you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year and look forward to seeing many of you over the coming months!

Rusty will also be doing his bit for charity, and in particular the Teenage Cancer Trust. We have a competition in place with some great prizes to be won,all you have to do is guess how many miles Rusty will travel in 2012!!

Rusty will begin the year with a truly memorable expedition-he is going to the South Pole with William McNamara of Bluestone Leisure Ltd(see www.90degreessouth.co.uk ) and we can’t wait to hear the exciting tales of this fantastic adventure!!

We will be keeping you up to date throughout the year of Rusty’s progress, and we hope that many of you will have a go at the competition,it’s only £1 a go and all the proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Where did Summer Go !!!!

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Well, time has certainly flown by,the bar be que summer we were told to expect passed us by,AGAIN !!! At least we have not had to deal with any more volcanic eruptions or BA strikes(he says keeping his fingers firmly crossed!)

Lots of exciting things have been happening behind the scenes at Ocky White Travel.Eleri has become a proud mum again, another little boy,Harri,so that makes three boys, and Gerald!,for her to look after now! Eleri is of course away on maternity leave at the moment but hopes to come back and rejoin us at some time in the future.

A new member of staff joined us in July,Anna.Although not coming from a travel background,Anna has impressed us all with her infectious enthusiasm and desire to learn. We have already enrolled her on the Caribbean Tourist Organization Specialist Course which no doubt she will complete and qualify very soon.

Kevin has been busy too and has just qualified as an “Aussie Specialist“.This is a prestigious qualification run by Australian Tourism, and Kevin now is the only “Aussie Specialist” west of Cardiff! We  are extremely proud of all our team and their specialist areas of expertise:

Victoria – Luxury,Cruise,Weddings,Honeymoons and Groups Specialist

Chris- Cruise Specialist and long haul.

Kevin- Australia,New Zealand and Winter Sports Specialist

Anna-Caribbean and Greek Islands

Julie- Mediterranean and Canary Islands

As well as being the only “Aussie Specialist”in  SW Wales,we are of course the only appointed “KUONI SPECIALIST AGENT“ in the whole of South Wales!Whatever your enquiry or wherever you want to go,you can be sure that one of our team can be of service!!!!

What a fiASHco!!!!

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Well,no prizes for guessing how April 2010 will be remembered. The eruption of the Icelandic volcano(no,I’m not going to spell it!) caused the greatest disruption to travel plans that Europe has seen in a generation.Hundreds of thousands of bemused and weary travellers were either left stranded in foreign lands or prevented from travelling abroad on business or pleasure in the first place. The repercussions have been, and will continue to be enormous, not least whether the restrictions imposed by NATS in the first place were too severe.Airlines and insurers are now faced with bills running into billions of pounds, and, like it or not, ultimately we will all end up paying for the chaos.

Of course many of our clients were innocent victims of the Volcano. We had passengers stranded in India,Tenerife,Florida and Dubai. We also had to work quickly to change the date of a Caribbean Wedding which fell prey to the Ash cloud and also to rebook the deserved holiday of some troops from the Signals Regiment who had just returned from Afghanistan.Amazingly, considering the disruption and disappointment for all those affected, everyone remained calm and philosophical, and it certainly made the jobs of our staff much easier in the face of these unique circumstances!!

April will also be remembered as we at Ocky White Travel bade a fond farewell to Shan.Shan had been with us for more than twelve years(over two spells)and will be genuinely missed by her colleagues and clients, many of whom became her good friends.Shan has moved away from the area,to Barry, and is now working at Cardiff Airport,so you may well bump into her up there.Anyway,Good luck Shan!

On the positive side,we are delighted to welcome Christine back to work after her op back in February.
